Situated in the UNESCO protected Magaliesberg biosphere, the trail delights hikers with its biodiversity and awe-inspiring views over the Hartbeespoort Dam.

What makes the uitkyk trail unique?

The Uitkyk Trail is one of the few areas where the public have access to the Magaliesberg mountain range.

The steep and demanding trail rewards hikers with a spectacular view of the Hartbeespoort Dam.

The trail falls within the Magaliesberg Biosphere which is endorsed by UNESCO for its biodiversity and one-million-year record of human history. 

The Uitkyk Trail Elevation Profile

The trail ascends 440 meters. That is more than one and a half times the height of the Hillbrow Tower!

Essential Requirements:

  • Hiking parties must be at least 20 people.

  • The area is unfenced and unpatrolled; hikers must ensure that they walk together for their safety.

  • As the terrain is extreme, it is only suitable for fit, experienced hikers with appropriate footwear.

  • Hikers must carry a permit and a map from Fagalavoet, 3 litres of water, food, sun protection and first aid. 

  • Upon arrival, each hiker must sign the mountain register.

  • The fenced car park has ablution and braai facilities.

  • Please respect this nature reserve: fires, glass bottles, littering and defacing fauna and flora is prohibited.

To access to the Uitkyk Hiking Trail you must have a booking which can be made at www.fagalavoet.co.za

Essential Requirements:

  • Hiking parties must be at least 20 people.

  • Booking must be made at least a day in advance.

  • Hikers must carry a permit and a map from Fagalavoet, 3 litres of water, food, sun protection and first aid.
